GitHub Copilot: How much it costs and how to pay for it from Argentina

GitHub Copilot: how much it costs and how to pay for it from Argentina

Starting June 1, 2026, GitHub Copilot changed its pricing model: now plans include a usage quota in credits rather than a fixed number of queries. Additionally, GitHub charges in US dollars, so from Argentina, the final cost depends on how you pay.

In this guide, you’ll see the plans, how much taxes add up to, and how to pay using the belo VISA LUX card.

Download the belo app and check out how to keep a dollar balance for your development tools.

How much does GitHub Copilot cost and what does each plan include?

According to GitHub, individual plans switched to usage-based billing with AI credits. One credit is equivalent to USD 0.01.

Code suggestions while you type and next-edit suggestions do not consume credits, while chat, agent mode, and more advanced models do.

Individual plans and included credits

Plan

Price per month

Included usage per month

Estimated in pesos with taxes

Free

USD 0

Limited use of suggestions, chat, and agent

$0

Pro

USD 10

USD 15 in credits

≈ $23,600

Pro+

USD 39

USD 70 in credits

≈ $91,900

Max

USD 100

USD 200 in credits

≈ $235,600

In Pro, Pro+, and Max, part of the included usage matches the plan price, and another part, called "flex," can change over time.

When the included usage runs out, you can set an additional budget that is billed at the end of the month. Team plans, Business (USD 19 per user) and Enterprise (USD 39 per user), work with shared credits.

A detail to verify before planning: GitHub reported that new sign-ups for Pro, Pro+, and Max were paused following the change and would reopen gradually. Check the GitHub plans page to see if they are available.

How much extra do you pay with an Argentine bank card?

With a card issued in Argentina, the bank converts the dollars to pesos and adds taxes: the 21% VAT (IVA) on foreign digital services and a 30% tax withholding toward Income and Personal Assets Taxes.

In some provinces, a Gross Income Tax (Ingresos Brutos) is also charged, around 2%. The PAIS Tax ended in December 2024. Overall, the final cost ends up more than 50% above the dollar price.

The estimate in the table multiplies the price by the official exchange rate on 10/20/2026 ($1,540) and by 1.53.

This is just a reference: the final amount depends on your bank and your province. Moreover, with a bank card, the cost in pesos is only clear once you receive your statement.

If you handle dollars as a freelancer, it's a good idea to understand the taxes that apply to your activity to anticipate how much each subscription adds up to.

How to pay for GitHub Copilot with the belo VISA LUX card?

The belo VISA LUX is a virtual card issued in Puerto Rico that operates with a balance in dollars or USDT. It has no issuance or maintenance fees, and international purchases carry a 1% fee.

To request it, you need a verified account and a balance of more than 25 USDT. The charge from GitHub is processed in dollars against that balance, without conversion to pesos. If you get paid in dollars, you can use that same balance to pay for the tool.

Steps to set it up on GitHub

  1. Top up your balance in USD or USDT from the belo app.

  2. Copy your card details from the cards section: number, expiration date, and security code.

  3. Go to github.com/settings/billing, choose your plan, and add the card as a payment method.

  4. Confirm the subscription and check that the charge appears in the belo app.

For example, Copilot Pro at USD 10 would mean USD 10 plus the 1% fee, totaling USD 10.10. If you activate an additional budget, the charge at the end of the month may vary, so it's best to leave extra balance on the card to prevent it from being declined.

An important note: the belo Mastercard is designed for payments in pesos within Argentina. Foreign currency transactions are converted to pesos based on the Banco Nación official selling exchange rate on the day of settlement, plus additional fees.

For subscriptions in dollars, the appropriate card is the VISA LUX. Before assuming that a payment with a foreign-issued card is exempt from any tax, verify the current regulations with an accountant or reach out to belo.

When should you upgrade from Copilot Free to Pro?

The free version works for sporadic use, trying out suggestions on specific projects. If you hit the chat or agent limit before the end of the week, the Free plan is already costing you time.

Pro includes USD 15 of monthly usage and code suggestions without credit consumption, making it a sensible choice for daily work. If you make heavy use of agent mode with advanced models, credits may run out faster, which is when Pro+ should be considered.

For those who bill in dollars, USD 10 per month usually represents a small portion of their income. What really changes the math is how you pay: with a dollar balance, the charge is known in advance.

Download the belo app and check out the current terms and conditions for your account.
