How to buy on Amazon from Argentina: shipping, limits, and how to pay in dollars

How to buy on Amazon from Argentina

Buying on Amazon from Argentina is possible, but the price on the screen isn't what you end up paying: between shipping, VAT, and the payment method, the final cost changes quite a bit.

Here we explain how shipping works, what you pay under the rules in effect since July 2026, and how to pay in dollars.

Download the belo app and check out how to have a dollar balance for your international purchases, depending on your account and current terms.

Before the Cart, What You Need to Know

A product listed on Amazon for USD 100 can end up costing significantly more by the time it reaches your doorstep in Buenos Aires: shipping, VAT, and, depending on how you pay, other fees are added.

That difference between the on-screen price and the actual cost is what frustrates those trying to buy on Amazon from Argentina for the first time, and it is almost always explained by layers of costs that appear after checkout.

The first step is to create an account on amazon.com (the global version, not amazon.com.br), using an email address and a shipping address in Argentina.

Not everything you see in the catalog ships to the country, and Amazon operates with two shipping models that matter a lot when the address is in Argentina.

Shipping Models to Keep in Mind

  • Products fulfilled directly by Amazon (marked as "Fulfilled by Amazon" or "Ships from Amazon") usually offer the option of international shipping to Argentina, which is known locally as amazon puerta a puerta argentina (door-to-door Amazon Argentina).

  • Products sold by third parties within the marketplace rarely offer that international shipping option.

Before moving forward, filter by "International Shipping" or proceed to checkout to confirm that the product actually ships.

What the On-Screen Price Doesn't Show

At checkout, Amazon calculates an estimated "Import Fees Deposit," which includes customs duties and import taxes.

It is added to the product price and shipping, functioning as a deposit that Amazon collects upfront to cover customs costs. If the actual charge is lower, Amazon refunds the difference to the original payment method.

Since July 2026, a unified regime has been in effect for international purchases via courier and postal mail, established by Decree 604/2026 and General Resolution 5884/2026 from ARCA.

Each shipment has a USD 400 FOB value allowance (the price of the merchandise, excluding freight and insurance), exempt from import duties and statistical fees. You can use it up to 5 times per calendar year, with a cap of USD 3,000 per shipment and for personal use.

The allowance does not exempt you from VAT, which is generally 21%.

If the shipment exceeds USD 400, the applicable import duties for the type of product are paid only on the excess amount, since the flat 50% tariff from the previous regime no longer exists. It is advisable to confirm the details at arca.gob.ar before buying.

This is an example with a USD 15 shipping fee and 21% VAT (some products have a different rate), and the courier may also charge a handling fee.

If you pay with an Argentine card, you have to add the tax withholdings and your bank's exchange rate. Even so, the on-screen price represents only a fraction of the actual expense.

How Long Shipping to Argentina Takes

For products with immediate availability, standard shipping is usually estimated at up to 9 days and priority shipping at around 6. Amazon shows the estimated date at checkout, and the actual timeframe depends on the product, the shipping type, and customs delays.

The package goes through dispatch in the United States, international transit, Argentine customs (where the courier handles clearance on your behalf), and home delivery.

During high-demand periods, such as November for Black Friday or December for the holidays, everything can take longer.

Tracking works well during the international leg, but it may lose detail within the courier's local network. If it stalls for a few days in customs, it's usually part of the standard process.

Cards and the Cost of How You Pay

The payment method determines a part of the final cost that many buyers overlook.

When you use an Argentine bank card to buy on Amazon, your bank converts the dollar charge into pesos at its own exchange rate, which may differ from the rate on the day of purchase.

Added to that are tax withholdings on foreign currency spending: currently, a 30% advance payment toward Income and Personal Assets taxes, which remains in effect following the end of the PAIS Tax in December 2024.

There is uncertainty between checkout and your card statement, and some choose to pay directly in dollars to eliminate it. That is where the belo LUX virtual VISA card comes in, a virtual card for international purchases designed for foreign currency payments and subscriptions.

By paying with a balance in dollars or USDT from the app, the amount is set at the time of the transaction, without depending on the exchange rate of a future statement closing date. Being virtual, the card details are available immediately in the app.

The belo LUX has no issuance or maintenance fees, and international purchases carry a 1% fee. To request it, you need a verified account and a balance of more than 25 USDT.

An important point about the belo Mastercard: it is another card available in the app, but designed for day-to-day spending in pesos within Argentina.

Foreign currency transactions with that card are converted to Argentine pesos at Banco Nación's official selling exchange rate on the day the charge is processed, plus additional costs.

For purchases on Amazon or other international sites, the option that makes the most sense to check out is belo LUX. Download the belo app and review the current terms according to your account.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buying on Amazon from Argentina

Can any Amazon product be shipped to Argentina?

No. Only products fulfilled directly by Amazon usually offer international shipping to Argentina; third-party products rarely offer this option, so it is best to confirm before checkout.

What happens if the actual customs charge is lower than the "Import Fees Deposit" Amazon charged?

Amazon refunds the difference, which is credited to the original payment method once the actual customs fees are confirmed.

Is it worth waiting for Black Friday to buy on Amazon from Argentina?

Discounts can be genuine, but delivery times are longer in November and December. If the price makes up for the wait, it can be worth it, though it's best to plan ahead.

Does the USD 400 allowance apply per product or per shipment?

The allowance applies per shipment, regardless of how many products the package includes, and you can use it up to 5 times per calendar year.

If the FOB value of the shipment exceeds USD 400, import duties are calculated only on the excess amount, and VAT is still paid.
