How the yield on the money you keep saved works

How interest works on the money you keep saved

Many users separate funds in a piggy bank thinking that the balance starts generating yield automatically, and later wonder why they don't see any activity.

Here we tell you what setting needs to be activated, what you see on the screen, and what happens to the yield if you move funds or delete the piggy bank.

How yield is generated on savings in digital dollars

Many users separate funds in a piggy bank thinking that the balance starts generating yield automatically, and later wonder why they don't see any activity. The reason is related to a setting that sometimes goes unnoticed.

In order for the balance inside a piggy bank to generate yield on digital dollar savings, you need to have the yield option activated for that specific currency.

If you have USDT or USDC saved in a piggy bank but yields are deactivated, that balance remains there without accumulating anything.

Accumulation begins the moment you activate yields for the corresponding currency, and continues as long as that option remains turned on.

Something that is good to be clear about from the start: USDT yield and interest on balances in stablecoins like USDC are variable. There is no fixed or guaranteed rate.

In beloyields on stablecoins fluctuate based on market conditions, which means that what accumulates today may differ from what accumulates tomorrow. This applies both to the balance inside a piggy bank and to the general balance in your wallet.

What you see on your dashboard while yield accumulates

Once the option is active, your piggy bank balance starts working. Understanding what each number on the screen represents prevents confusion when you decide to move funds.

The two values you will see inside your piggy bank

  • The principal balance corresponds to the amount you originally deposited, plus any additional deposits you made afterwards.

  • The accumulated yield reflects what that balance was generating while yields were active, and is updated continuously, in real time.

You can verify at any time how much has been accumulated without waiting for a period close or a monthly settlement. This visual separation between capital and yield becomes relevant when you decide to close or delete the piggy bank.

What happens if you move funds or delete the piggy bank

There are three different situations that produce different results, and it is worth knowing them before moving any balance.

Three situations with different results

  1. You withdraw funds from the piggy bank. The amount you withdraw stops generating yield from that moment on. The balance remaining inside continues to accumulate as long as the yield option remains active for that currency, and you do not lose what was already generated up to that point.

  2. You deactivate yields for that currency. Accumulation stops both in the piggy bank and in the general balance of your wallet. The yield that was already generated does not disappear, it simply stops growing until you reactivate the option.

  3. You delete the piggy bank. The principal balance returns to your general wallet. The system discounts only the yield that that piggy bank generated, without affecting accumulated yields in other piggy banks or in your general balance.

If you had three piggy banks and you delete one, the other two continue to function with their own yields intact, and the capital you had deposited is fully reintegrated into your wallet.

Timing and situations to anticipate

To make the flow clearer, consider two concrete situations. In the first one, you open a piggy bank, deposit USDC, activate yields, and leave the balance there for some time.

Yield accumulates continuously. When you decide to delete the piggy bank, you recover your original deposit in the main wallet and the yield from that piggy bank is discounted in isolation without touching anything else.

In the second situation, you open the piggy bank and deposit funds, but before deleting it you deactivate yields. Accumulation stops at that moment.

When you later delete the piggy bank, the yield that was generated up to the deactivation is what gets discounted, and your capital returns to the wallet. Yield settlement does not depend on a monthly cutoff or a specific day.

It is calculated continuously, meaning that the number you see on the screen always reflects the current status. There are no surprises when moving or withdrawing funds because the dashboard already shows the separation between what you deposited and what was generated.

If you are looking to build a more structured savings strategy, in belo we designed piggy banks so that you can combine daily, weekly, or monthly automatic deposits with the active yield option, so that the balance you accumulate works without you having to intervene manually each time.

Before assuming that the balance is generating something, verify that yields are active for the currency you are using, whether it is USDT or USDC.

Frequently asked questions about how yield works on the money you keep saved

Does yield activate automatically when I create a piggy bank?

No. Creating a piggy bank and depositing funds does not activate yield automatically. You need to activate the yield option for the specific currency you have saved, whether it is USDT or USDC, for the balance to start accumulating.

What yield rate will I receive on my stablecoins?

The rate is variable and fluctuates based on market conditions, so there is no fixed or guaranteed percentage. The dashboard shows you in real time how much has accumulated up to that moment.

Do I lose accumulated yield if I delete a piggy bank?

The system discounts only the yield that that piggy bank generated in isolation. The capital you deposited returns in full to your wallet, and yields from your other piggy banks or your general balance are not affected.

Can I have multiple piggy banks with active yields at the same time?

Yes. Each piggy bank operates independently with its own accumulated yield. You can delete or modify one without it impacting the others.

How often is the yield I see on screen updated?

Yield is calculated and shown continuously, without monthly cutoffs or periodic settlements. The number you see at any time reflects the current state of your accumulation.
